Manchester United still want 22-year-old Rolls-Royce

Manchester United are still interested in signing John Stones this summer despite intense competition from Champions League qualifiers Manchester City.

That’s a according to The Sun which states this weekend:

Manchester City close on £50m Everton defender John Stones but fellow Prem giants United and Chelsea are still interested

We have seen Manchester City conduct their transfer business in ruthless fashion over the last few years as inflated transfer fees have rarely provided an insurmountable obstacle.

But the will of the player will be just as important as money in this move and Stones was clearly keen on the idea of teaming up with Jose Mourinho last season.

TFF never had confidence in David Moyes or Louis van Gaal as transfer negotiators. But Mourinho strikes us as much more like Sir Alex Ferguson in his hands on approach to luring players to the club.

If he wants Stones then we expect a personal call or two to go in over the next fortnight, with Jose offering an attractive vision for the future of Manchester United, as the youngster makes the biggest decision of his career – stay at Everton or leave for one of the big boys.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was often referred to as a Rolls-Royce of a footballer and John Stones is the first English player that we have seen come through with similar traits.

He’s done nothing yet and has so much to prove to be even whispered about in the same category as the wonderful Ferdinand – one of the only defenders in football history who was worth the entrance fee alone – but Stones has the talent to be seen as Manchester United’s next Rolls Royce defender with his ball control, composure and passing ability, twinned with a desire to bring the ball up the field himself.

Whoever gets him will have a sure thing and a player who can bring class to a defence for a decade or more.
