Manchester United keen on South American 22-year-old

Manchester United are being linked with a big money move for one of the best defenders in South American football in the latest news cycle.

Local media outlet, The Manchester Evening News, reports:

Manchester United are considering Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos as a potential defensive signing.

Marquinhos is a defender of inordinate skill. The fact that he has only played 17 caps for Brazil says more about his deceptive lack of experience than his quality.

Because although it feels as if he has been around for ages, he’s still only 22 and finding maturity to his game.

He’s been in the PSG side for four seasons already and amassed 146 appearances and a notable 10 goals – a better tally than many a midfielder nets at the top end of football.

The 6ft centre back moved from Roma in the summer of 2013 for around 31m Euros.

Manchester United would probably have to exceed that fee if they wanted to land a player who is still way off his best years.

But he’s be a fantastic partner for Eric Bailly in the defence – a ball playing centre back in the Rio Ferdinand mould who could offer the elegance to complement the pure brawn and defensive skills of the Ivory Coast international.

Manchester United fans: a wise investment or should Jose be focusing on strengthening the attack?
