Manchester United interested in signing Player of the Year

Manchester United need some extra guile and pace on the wings so it was only a matter of time before they were linked to Leicester City wizard, Riyad Mahrez.

The latest cycle brings news that the player has been offered a bumper new contract of around £100,000 per week at The King Power. But if he turns that down then the price tag will be around £25-30m.

The Sun says:

Arsenal and Manchester United are both keen on wide man Mahrez

And Sky Sports News:

However, if the player rejects the contract extension, the Foxes will let the 25-year-old join either Man Utd or Arsenal, who are both interested in signing the PFA Player of the Year.

Mahrez has come from relative obscurity to have an absolute blinder for the champions this season. At 25 he still has his best years ahead of him and although romantics everywhere would love to see him lining up for The Foxes next season we can just as easily imagine him playing in the red of Manchester United or Arsenal.

Signed from Le Havre in France Riyad Mahrez played 19 games in The Championship for Leicester before two excellent seasons in the top flight, culminating in that still scarcely believable title.

Many of us would prefer he stayed at The Foxes but fans of the club may be about to see at first hand how money speaks louder than ever in football and the cream usually rises to the top.

As such Jamie Vardy, Mahrez and N’Golo Kante look particularly susceptible to transfers this summer. Mahrez has played 24 times for Algeria and scored 5 goals to add to his excellent tally of 18 goals in 39 games for Leicester last season.

Manchester United have so far added Eric Bailly to their squad for the next campaign under new manager Jose Mourinho.
