Is this Manchester United’s De Gea replacement?

It could almost be an understatement to call the David de Gea to Real Madrid story a broken record.

It seems that almost since the player joined Manchester United he’s been linked with the move back to Spain. And it’s easy to see why. Because this is one of the very best footballers in the world.

At 26 he is at the top of his game and is of course a Spanish international. His affiliations with Atletico Madrid seem irrelevant as the play I was so close to joining us blank also lost some up before administrative problems scuppered the move.

But, either because of slow news days, or real substance there has been a swell of rumour over the last few weeks that the player is once more interesting the biggest club in the world.

Manchester United would surely prefer to retain the services of a player who could still give another 10 years to the top level of the sport.

But with a few years left on his contract they could command a huge fee for the player if they decide that it is pointless to try to hold on to him.

And latest reports in the British media suggest that Jan Oblack is keen to be the next No.1 should the Spaniard depart Old Trafford.

A source close to Oblak told The Manchester Evening News:

“I think for every player it is an honour to come to the UK and play for clubs like this one,” a source close to the player told MEN Sport.

“A lot of top clubs from Europe wants the best goalkeeper in the world. In the UK, there are three of them who show an interest regarding Jan Oblak.

“If De Gea goes back to Spain, everything is possible.”

The 24-year-old Atletico Madrid stopper has played 13 times for Slovenia since his debut in 2012. He’s also been steady influence at Atletico where he has featured 99 times over three seasons.
