Manchester United’s Statement Signing? £56m target told he can leave his club

When TFF spoke this week about possible marquee or ‘statement’ captures this summer, we neglected to mention James Rodriguez of Real Madrid.

He may not currently be quite on the level of Messi, Ronaldo, Bale or Neymar and his form has dropped off in the last year.

But, at his best, he can compete with the aforementioned in terms of quality and football fantasy.

At 24, the 5ft 11in midfielder has magic in his feet as you can see from this highlights vid. And a British media report is stating that Manchester United can have him for around £50m.

The Daily Mirror reports:

James Rodriguez told he can leave Real Madrid for Manchester United but will cost £50m

We suspect that Henrik Mkhitaryan will join Manchester United this summer and play at number 10 for the club. That is also Rodriguez’ best position, according to many. But he also has the pace to play on the wing and has done so many times for club and country.

So we shouldn’t discount a move for the Colombian even if the Armenian does come to Old Trafford as expected.

Rodriguez has already played 47 times for his country, scoring 16 goals. He has played 78 times and scored 25 goals for Real Madrid which represent decent stats for a player who hasn’t been starting as regularly under Zinedine Zidane or Rafa Benitez.

Make no mistake, this would be a wonderful purchase for a Manchester United side which needs to be quicker and more incisive in attack and more able to penetrate the opponents’ back lines. He has been linked with a move to United for some time.
