Manchester United’s New Killer

Manchester United struggled last season without a number 9 on top form. Wayne Rooney has lost some pace over the last few years and was regularly played deeper under Louis van Gaal, thus blunting his goalscoring senses – temporarily at least.

So to see Zlatan lurking ominously up front for Manchester United against Leicester was a reassuring sight for many.

The Swedish maestro didn’t have the best game for Manchester United at Wembley and several of his early touches went astray.

But, in a sign of a true champion, he didn’t get flustered or throw his head up to the gods as we saw Dimitar Berbatov do, for example, on such a regular occasion.

No, Zlatan remained focused because he knew that, if he did, a chance would come.

And his 83rd minute attempt was by no means an easy chance. There was no great power on the delivery and a centre back in his path.

But Zlatan used every sinew and that marvellous neck power to place the ball beyond the despairing lunge of the keeper.

TFF can’t help but think that this could become a very common sight over the next year or two.

Because Zlatan is Manchester United’s new killer. A finisher of the highest order. We last saw the bar raised in such a way when RvP came in and started scoring straight away.

Zlatan now has two Manchester United goals in three appearances. He’s already broken his duck so there will be no nerves about scoring goals.

Jose has had a remarkable summer in the market but his free transfer may turn out to be the decisive factor in his first season at the club.
