Marcos Senesi joins Tottenham from Bournemouth as a free agent

The transfer market is just cranking up. One of the latest deals in the Premier League has seen Tottenham Hotspur complete the signing of Argentinian international centre-back Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth. The 29-year-old will join Spurs officially as a free agent on July 1^st, when his Cherries contract runs out.

Senesi reportedly had offers from elsewhere, including from Serie A clubs, but chose to sign for Spurs to stay in the Premier League.

Senesi has been a big hit at Bournemouth

The centre-back has enjoyed a stellar four years on the south coast with Bournemouth, after joining the club from Dutch giants Feyenoord in August 2022.

He has made 128 appearances for the Cherries and has become a crucial member of their backline, especially after the departure of the likes of Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Illia Zabarnyi last summer.

Senesi provided the continuity and stability at the heart of the Cherries’ defence, as Bournemouth recorded a record sixth-place finish in the Premier League table, and booked their place in the Europa League for next season.

Senesi part of the Tottenham rebuild

Tottenham have endured two seasons to forget in the Premier League, finishing 17^th in back-to-back campaigns. The north London club only secured their status in the English top-flight on the final day of last season.

Head coach Roberto de Zerbi has already expressed his desire to overhaul his squad, which could lead to significant player turnover this summer.

Signing Senesi is just part of the squad rebuild, as Spurs look to avoid a repeat of recent seasons. Tottenham have already secured the signature of Scotland international Andy Robertson, after the 32-year-old’s contract with Liverpool expired.

The pair will provide maturity and stability to a Tottenham backline that has looked highly vulnerable. The pair’s arrival could be a sign that the club are looking to move on some of their current defensive options this summer.

Senesi’s Argentinian international teammate Cristian Romero is believed to be interesting Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Dutch international centre-back Micky van de Ven has been consistently linked with moves away from Tottenham, with Real Madrid and Liverpool reportedly interested in signing him.
