Liverpool will be on the look out for real characters who can fill the huge vacuum created by the departure of Luis Suarez this summer. You might imagine that if they signed Mario Balotelli they would be simply swapping one liability with another.
But we think that does a disservice to Balotelli. We think that he could be a superstar at Liverpool.
Sure he’s a bit of a loose cannon. But we have a long held belief that it’s all about what footballers do on the pitch that counts. We don’t idolise these guys for their etiquette or altruistic ways. We idolise them as footballers and that’s how they should be judged.
As a footballer Balotelli has the lot. Power, pace, precision and guile. He’s also a real competitor with a great desire to win. He’s got proven Premier League experience and has scored goals wherever he has played. He also scores big goals in big games.
Arsenal were reportedly keen on signing but they seem to have cooled on the idea. The Metro today reports that he could now be available for as little as £14m.
Liverpool have been given a boost in the hunt for Mario Balotelli after AC Milan reportedly splashed his asking to just £14million.
Balotelli is rumoured to be among Liverpool’s top transfer targets this summer with Brendan Rodgers looking for a replacement for Luis Suarez.
And while the Italian’s £30million price tag might have put off any potential bidders, Italian newspaper Tuttosport says Milan have slashed that down to just £14million.
At that price we think it’s areal that is begging to be done. Arsenal could certainly use him and we also believe that he would give Liverpool more edge up top.
