With news this week that Wilfried Zaha is garnering interest from the best clubs in England TFF considers how big an error Manchester United made in allowing the England international to leave the club.
The Guardian wrote this week that four of the top clubs in England are now tracking the player and that Crystal Palace are preparing the biggest contract in their history to keep the forward at the club.
They write:
It continued the 24-year-old’s fine run of form that has caught the attention of some of the country’s biggest clubs, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City understood to have expressed an interest in recent weeks in signing him.
The 24-year-old has played six times for the Ivory Coast since he made his debut earlier this year and scored two goals in the process. He’s been on fire for Crystal Palace this season as well and scored his sixth goal of the season last weekend as well as providing what is becoming a typical assist from the pacy winger.
In truth he wasn’t really given a look in at Manchester United. He played games four games over two seasons and looked exasperated from the beginning of his Manchester United career. There was definite inconsistency about his game at that time but his skill was also plain to say. He had the rare ability to be able to beat a man and that pace was an asset which would be of value to any elite team.
Add his athleticism and ability keep going almost effortlessly for 90 minutes and it does seem rather confusing that Manchester United saw fit to dispose of the player so quickly and at such a young age.
Time will tell whether it proves to be a mistake of grand proportions. Zaha still needs to add end product to his game if he really wants to enter the elite.
But the mere fact that Manchester City and Chelsea are keen should tell us all we need to know about the raw materials that Zaha possesses.
