Transfers: Will this man be running the show for Arsenal this season?

TFF believes that Arsenal are finally well provided for in the defensive midfield areas after years of being periodically trampled through the middle of the park.

Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka should give Arsenal better balance and make them harder to play through.

Now we would love to see Arsene bring in a top centre back and a top centre forward.

If only one of the two were possible then we would take a top centre forward – someone who doesn’t just score against mediocre opposition (Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck) but who can do make a difference when it really matters.

That is, after all, why you have strikers in your side right? But Arsenal remain a powder puff team when it comes to the crunch. A team largely unable to find the keys to the door of the latter stages of the biggest competitions.

For all his intelligence and principles, Arsene Wenger seems yet to grasp this nettle.

He won’t pay silly money for an average talent. That’s understandable. But it’s almost 5 years since RvP departed and even longer since Thierry was in his pomp at Arsenal.

We say it every year. Wenger must act or be remembered as a good guy but an infuriating Gunners manager.

There aren’t too many of these players around but TFF believes that Mauro Icardi falls comfortably into the category.

The Independent reported last night that:

Gunners prepare ‘€50m offer’ for Mauro Icardi as Rob Holding deal nears completion

This is a player of the perfect profile. He’s just 23, an Argentine international and a player who has scored 52 goals in 102 games in a top European league. He’s only 5ft 11in but Arsenal already have the height with the 6ft 4in Giroud. What they need now is someone who can break the opposition lines. A player of pace, guile and who is ruthless in front of goal.

TFF and Arsenal fans alike want to scream to Wenger ‘bring him in!’. Let your hair down Arsene. You deserve it after all these years. We know you are prudent man who hates the way prices have gone so far north in football. But it’s time to have another splurge on a top talent a la Alexis Sanchez.

Sign Icardi then sit back and enjoy.
