More talk of Rooney exit from Manchester United

Having signed a new contract a year ago and being handed the Manchester United captaincy this autumn you would expect that Wayne Rooney would now see out his career at the club. At 28 years of age he is into the last 4 years of his top level career and he seems very settled at Old Trafford under new manager Louis van Gaal.

Indeed Rooney has been one of the stand out performers under the new regime with plenty of goals and assists from his new position at the head of the diamond.

Yet, rumours persist that a move could be on the cards. The long term suitors were Chelsea but it appears that Monaco are the team that is now hot on his trail.

The Metro reports:

Monaco want Wayne Rooney in exchange for making Radamel Falcao loan move permanent

Apart form anything we don’t believe that Monaco are in a position to afford him. They did by big over the last few years. But more recently the trend has been to offload their star players with Falcao and James Rodriguez both leaving in the summer.

Unless Manchester United and Louis van Gaal decide that they no longer need him then we just can;t see it happening. There has been debate about whether Rooney’s best days are behind him but he is still a vital cog in the Manchester United machine and his manager at club level seems particularly happy with his captain right now.

Stranger things have happened. And, if he United do decide to dispense with his services then Monaco is a not unlikely destination – they can offer wonderful surroundings and Champions League football – but we think Wazza will spend the rest of his career in The Premier League and with The Reds.
