New Arsenal star ‘really excited’ after sealing deal to join The Gunners

It’s been a long time coming but, after seemingly interminable transfer rumours about the potential deal, Arsenal have finally signed Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Having put his ink on the dotted line, Cech seems relieved and excited to be joining a club which always seems close to success. He said:

“I’m really excited about joining Arsenal Football Club and can’t wait to join up for pre-season.

After a very frustrating season for Cech, in which he found himself in the unusual position of playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea, the celebrated stopper will be a guaranteed starter for Arsenal and he was obviously given great confidence to join the club by Arsene Wenger:

“When Arsene Wenger spoke to me about his ambitions for this club, and how he saw me as part of this team, the decision was clear.”

Cech has been one of the pillars of The Premier League era. He has won 4 league titles and appeared in two Champions League finals in his time at Chelsea. Add 4 FA Cup wins and this is a player of consummate experience. Cech has also played a remarkable 114 times for his country, The Czech Republic, since his debut in 2002.

At 33 there are some question marks about how long he can play at the very top level. But for the next twelve months, at least, Arsenal can put to bed any doubts that they might have about the man between the sticks. Because, for around £11m, they have bought as close to a dead cert as football transfers come.

And after a year on the sidelines, Cech certainly seems hungry to keep achieving with his new team:

“I have the same commitment to football, the same motivation and the same hunger for success as I had at the beginning of my career,

We think that it’s a great solution for a long-term issue at Arsenal.

Here are some of his best moments for Chelsea.
