Newcastle: Major January Deal On?

It’s been simmering along for most of the month and Sky Sports reports today that Newcastle remain interested in the services of England international Andros Townsend.

Sky Sports reports:

Newcastle remain keen on Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend, according to Sky sources.

The 25-year-old Leytonstone-born England international has played 13 times for England since his debut in 2013 and scored three goals in an impressive career at international level.

But his club form has been more patchy and he fell out of favour at Tottenham while still in the England side. He has never quite settled at any club that he has played for but perhaps Newcastle has been one of his best success stories. He only played 13 times for the Toon but scored four goals and fitted in really well despite Newcastle’s fall from grace last term.

His move to Crystal Palace has been a modest success with only one goal scored in 24 appearances for the club. And the fact that there rumours have surfaced, and been persistent, would suggest that he is less than happy under Sam Allardyce. TFF believes that if Newcastle can get this deal over the line it will not only be one of the signings of the window but assure the club of a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Newcastle fans: would this deal get the club over the line for an immediate return to the Premier League?
