Newcastle: Another Done Deal

It’s been a very busy summer so far in the transfer market for Newcastle United and another deal has been done today according to Sky Sports News, who write:

Newcastle have confirmed that Florian Thauvin has completed a season-long loan move to Marseille.

The report states that the deal obliges Marseille to buy the player permanently at the end of the 12 month loan.

Based on the form that the player has shown over the last year, many to most Newcastle fans will be delighted that Thauvin has moved on. But it’s a seriously disappointing end to his Newcastle career.

So much was expected from the man who cost a small fortune on 19th August 2015 and, despite a fleet-footed in his debut against Manchester United, he completely flattered to deceive with just 13 appearances, one goal and three assists, before a move back to Marseille at the turn of the year.

Even if Newcastle recoup half of their money at this stage it would have to be seen as a decent result considering the awful showing in the Toon shirt.

In other news, unsettled midfield star Moussa Sissoko has publicly burnt his bridges with the fans by stating that he wants to leave the club this summer. The 26-year-old France midfielder, who has played 44 times for his country and 133 games for Newcastle (12 goals), is quoted as saying:

“I hope Real will come for me, I’m still waiting,”

“If Real Madrid are interested in you then of course you will be happy, but right now I am still a Newcastle player.”

“I spent three and a half years here. I gave everything for this club and I want to play some big games. For that I need to go somewhere else,” he added.

“I want to play in the Premier League, I want to play for a big club who can get into the Champions League. That’s why I said I want to leave this year.

“I’ve spent a lot of time here and now it’s time to look forward. The fans need to understand my situation, I hope they will and that everything will be OK.”
