Nicolas Otamendi reportedly in England to tie up a transfer to Manchester City

Anyone who saw Manchester City’s destruction of Chelsea at the weekend will feel that their squad is already one of the most competitive in Europe.

But such is the determination to put last season’s failings behind them that Manchester City still look as if they will strengthen significantly before the end of the window.

A deal for Kevin de Bruyne of Wolfsburg still looks eminently possible and reports today suggest that Argentine international, Nicolas Otamendi, is in Manchester to seal a deal with City.

The Metro reports:

Nicolas Otamendi ‘arrives in England ahead of Manchester City transfer’

And Spanish football expert Guillem Balague Tweeted earlier:

Otamendi is in Manchester already. The €40m deal with City separate from any loan deal

At 27 Otamendi is a seasoned international with a penchant for scoring goals. He got 6 in 38 from his position as a centre back last season for Valencia.

He has only been with the Spanish club for one season but, such has been his impact, that he has set tongues wagging all over Europe.

Manchester City were, at times, a little confused in defence last term. Vincent Kompany was below his imperious best due to regular injuries. And big money signing Eliaquim Mangala failed to settle.

Even without Otamendi Manchester City look in better form in defence in this campaign.

But, if reports are to be believed, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini isn’t taking any risks.
