Forward misses training to fuel Manchester United transfer speculation

This is a fairly new link in terms of Manchester United.

There has been fevered speculation that Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be leaving his club to join a Premier League side this month with Arsenal said to be chief amongst his suitors.

But regional media outlet The Manchester Evening News has since written a piece about the notion that

‘United do have an interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’

and this has been followed with news this afternoon from Sky Sports that the player has missed training for personal reasons.

A club spokesman said the Gabon international was absent “for personal reasons” although reports in England and Germany have linked the 26-year-old with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has been in amazing form this season with 27 goals, in as many games, in all competitions.

He started his career as a winger but has moved into a more central position over the last couple of years, particularly since he’s been at the German club. Aubameyang moved to Dortmund from St. Etienne in 2013.

In many ways, he seems like the perfect addition for Manchester United as manager Louis van Gaal has regularly bemoaned the lack of pace in his forward line.

The Gabon international is a very quick player who also has the shooting finesse of a number nine. Add to this a great engine and he is surely going to be one of the hottest prospects who is potentially on the market in January.

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Witzke was recently quoted as saying that the 26 year old is not indispensable which would also suggest that a move is on.

‘One must never make the mistake to believe that a club like BVB is dependent on a player. We are not dependent on anyone,’ he told Bild.

So he may just turn out to be Manchester United’s big winter signing. You can see some of his best moments here.
