Report – Pochettino eager to secure €34.2million star for Spurs

Mauricio Pochettino

After losing back to back PL games against Watford and Liverpool, Tottenham have won their last three league fixtures and currently, they are just two points behind joint leaders Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The north Londoners are below arch rivals Arsenal in the table due to an inferior goal difference. In the Champions League, Spurs have lost against Inter Milan and Barcelona and it will not come as any surprise if they are eliminated to the Europa League.

As far as the transfers are concerned, Pochettino did not strengthen his side in the summer transfer window but reports suggest that he is keen on reinforcing the team in the winter window.

According to an exclusive report covered by The Daily Star, Spurs have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Manchester United defender Eric Bailly. It is mentioned that Pochettino is a fan of the African star and is eager to secure his signature in the January transfer window.

The Ivorian international has been a regular starter under Mourinho in the past two seasons but in the current campaign, he has mainly warmed the bench. So far, Bailly has only started 3 PL games and therefore, his future is uncertain.

Contract, wages and price tag:

Bailly’s current contract with the Old Trafford club will expire in 2020, he earns around £75,000-a-week (The Express) and as per The Daily Star, United would want to recoup £30million (€34.2million) from his sale.

Situation at Tottenham:

Star defender Toby Alderweireld was linked with a move away from the club in the summer but eventually stayed. The Belgian international will be out of contract next summer and therefore, selling him in the winter window makes sense.

As per The Daily Star, Mourinho wants to improve his back line and could send 24-year-old Bailly to Spurs in order to sign Alderweireld.
