It was a performance which was much more assured than the ragged display in Turkey in midweek and Jose Mourinho will be mighty relieved to head into the international break with a much needed win.
So who shone for this experienced XI with a much higher average age than we have seen so far this season?
David de Gea
He will have few quite days than this for Manchester United but still health with some heavily contested crosses and high balls imperiously and made a smart save near his left post towards the end. 7
Matteo Darmian
Had his best game for Manchester United at left wingback in what looked to us like a 3-5-2. He got up and down the flank brilliantly and put in some excellent crosses. Was on the shortlist for man of the match. 8
Marcos Rojo
Has come in for some serious criticism of late and his defending ability can be exposed against better teams. But he did ok here. 6
Phil Jones
Looked solid after another lengthy absence. 7
Michael Carrick
Simply cannot be ignored by Jose any longer. When he is fit he must play because he brings composure and coherence to the side and also passes the ball beautifully out of defence. 9. MAN OF THE MATCH
Ashley Young
Indefatigable. 7
Paul Pogba
Let’s not get carried away. Swansea were no match for Manchester United. But his goal and all-round performance was why United bought him for all that money. 8
Marouane Fellaini
Basketball player. 5
Juan Mata
Busy as ever. 6
Wayne Rooney
Played slightly out to the left behind Zlatan and this was easily his best performance of the season so far. He looked far more spritely and in better shale than the heavy and sluggish version of Rooney that we have seen hitherto this season. Perhaps there is life in the old dog yet. 8
Zlatan
Two excellent goals and some more wayward passes. But, overall, he remains a top target man. 8
