Report: Real Madrid chasing world class 26-year-old

It is one of the most protracted transfer stories of all time. Real Madrid have been after David de Gea of Manchester United for time immemorial it seems. And they are apparently back in for the player as a potential replacement for Keylor Navas.

Local media outlet, the Manchester Evening News, points out:

Spanish website Don Balon claims that Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has made De Gea his number one target this summer.

Fan favourite De Gea was on the brink of a move to the Spanish giants back in 2015 but ended up staying at Old Trafford. He has been player of the season at United for the past three years.

As everybody in football knows the Spaniard almost signed for Real Madrid at the start of last season. But last minute administration errors cost the deal and the player has gone on to be even better for Manchester United over the last year.

He seems particularly happy under the new management of Jose Mourinho but there is still a sense that one day he will return to Spain and put on the famous jersey of Los Blancos.

That said Real Madrid may still have to wait some time because it feels as if there’s a really exciting project going on at Manchester United and that the De Gea wants to be part of it.

He’s already played 252 times for United over five and a half seasons and he feels like part of the furniture at Old Trafford. An Immaculate keeper, he has fantastic reflexes but also holds onto the ball beautifully and his distribution is second to none.

As good signings go Real Madrid would be almost guaranteeing success if they did sign this wonderful stopper.

But TFF thinks that they won’t have it all their own way and they might have to wait for another couple of transfer windows before any deal can be done – especially with Jose Mourinho at the helm of Manchester United.

Real Madrid fans: would he be the best player that you could sign at this point?
