Real Madrid have surprising transfer target

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing N’Golo Kante of Leicester City this summer as they look to strengthen again in the close season.

The European champions have a wonderful midfield with Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, with Paul Pogba also strongly linked with a move to El Bernabeu this summer.

But Spanish media outlet Marca reports that Real Madrid are, some might say rather surprisingly, looking at the Frenchman.

They write:

Kante emerges as Real Madrid target

Kante represents a rags to riches tale in football terms.

The 25-year-old played in France for minnows Boulogne and Caen before his move to Leicester City at the beginning of last season.

And he was widely viewed as a vital cog in the machine which somehow won The Premier League. Kante played 40 times (1 goal) for The Foxes and such was his form that he also forced is way into the France squad for EURO 2016 where he has also been a revelation.

But Real Madrid’s interest may still be seen as surprising considering that they generally go for artful anchor men.

Kante is more of a water carrier but is a player who also has decent passing range and good technique.

With Real Madrid kingpin Luka Modric now 31 Madrid will be looking to the future and Kante has his best years ahead of him.

With Zidane at the helm Real Madrid may have an increasingly French influence over the coming months. Kante and Paul Pogba could yet form the backbone of the next great Real Madrid vintage.

Here are some of Kante’s better moments for Leicester. Real Madrid fans: technically good enough for Los Blancos?
