Report – Liverpool favorites to sign £35million versatile player

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Last year, Liverpool secured a deal to sign Guinean midfielder, Naby Keita, from RB Leipzig in 2018 and the player eventually moved to the Reds in the last summer transfer window.

The Merseysiders further reinforced their midfield department by adding highly rated Brazilian, Fabinho, and now they have adequate quality and depth in the center of the park.

According to recent reports going on in the media, Liverpool are linked with yet another midfielder in the form of Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella. On 16th September, The Sunday Express reported that Klopp is confident of signing the Italian international, who is valued at £35million.

More recently, TuttoSport have reported that Liverpool are leading the race to secure the 21-year-old midfielder. The Italian outlet have explained that the Reds are in pole position for Barella mainly after selling Ragnar Klavan to Cagliari in the summer transfer window.

Playing position:

The Azzurri player is a versatile talent, who can be deployed in any midfield position. Naturally, he likes to play in the creative central midfield role. However, Cagliar have also utilized him in the defensive and attacking midfield positions.

Stats:

Last season, the youngster scored 6 goals in 34 league outings. This time around, so far, he has only scored once in 7 league outings.

Situation at Liverpool:

Klopp usually plays a 4-3-3 formation and to fit in the three man midfield, he has got players like Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita, Henderson, Fabinho, Lallana and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Therefore, signing Barella makes little sense at the moment.
