Rumour: Manchester United to sign defensive Rolls-Royce for £60m?

Manchester United are pretty well provided for in the centre of defence but few would be surprised if they signed another centre back this summer to complement the burgeoning talents of Ivory Coast International Eric Bailly.

There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of Manchester United re-signing their old star Michael Keane from Burnley this summer.

The 24-year-old has one year left on his contract and is apparently being coveted by several Premier League suitors. But reports in Spain over the weekend suggested Manchester United may turn their attention to Marquinhos, the brilliant Brazilian who currently plies his trade at PSG.

The Daily Star passes this one on:

It’s claimed Chelsea have turned to Sanchez because top target Marquinhos is heading to Manchester United.

Sport report that the Paris St-Germain defender will join United for £60m (€70m).

While Keane would be a solid addition to Manchester United TFF believes that Marquinhos would be a far better acquisition.

He would be the perfect compliment for the rugged Eric Bailly and offer the ball playing presence alongside the Ivory Coast man. It would be a hark back to the days of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand who served Manchester United so well for almost a decade of unbridled success.

The 23-year-old who can also play at right back has made 17 appearances for Brazil since his debut in 2013. He’s also been an elegant ever present for PSG when fit since his move to the club in 2013. He is currently on 155 appearances and a creditable 13 goals for the French giants since he made the move for seasons ago.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Manchester United fans – is this the dream signing?

  1. No, Aymeric Laporte would be a better signing. A 22 year old French International left footed centre back, with 2 years remaining on his current contract with Athletic Bilboa. Probable cost £40,m
Serge Aurier (PSG) and Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg) would be right and left full / wing back options, each with two years remaining on their contracts and both about to enter their prime playing years. They would each likely cost £25,m
Ruben Neves of Porto is a 20 year old with 2 years on his contract and would be an excellent Central Defensive midfielder, allowing Pogba and Herrera the ability to attack. Again he is likely to cost £25,m
Bernado Silva, a 22 year old with 3 years on his Monaco contract would be brilliant in the right attacking midfield position. As Monaco are likely to lose a number of their players this year, and after a successful year on the pitch, they will hold their players for ransom figures. A true market price is likely to be £45,m although I suspect his value could reach £65,m
Antoine Griezman at 26, with four years to go on his Athletic Madrid contract would play on the left of a 3 man attack. It has been reported that his contract has a £85,m release clause.
Marcus Rashford and or Anthony Martial would be the main striker.
This would be the side for a 4-3-3 system,
Alternatively, Herrera could make way for either Juan Mata or Henrik Mkhitaryan in a 4-2-3-1 system.
    Therefore possible spending of
    £,m
    40 – Aymeric Laporte
    25 – Serge Aurier
    25 – Ricardo Rodriguez
    25 – Ruben Neves
    45 – Bernardo Silva
    85 – Antoine Griezman
    —-
    245
Sell, Fellaini, Rooney, Young, Varela, Januzaj and either Jones or Smalling and the net spend will be £200.m.
