Burnley’s chairperson, Alan Pace, is set to hold talks with Scott Parker about his future with the Clarets. The Clarets relegation from the Premier League to the Championship has already been confirmed, and Parker’s future with the club is in doubt following the demotion.

Former Fulham boss Parker arrived at the north west club in the summer of 2024, coming in as the replacement for Bayern Munich-bound Vincent Kompany.

The club found itself in a similar position to the one it will be in this summer, having been relegated from the English top flight. Parker helped the Clarets to an instant return to the Premier League.

However, as soon as the north west outfit were promoted, they were one of the bookmakers’ favourites to suffer relegation. Unfortunately for the Clarets, they have lived up to their status, returning to the English second tier after just one season.

A summer recruitment drive that included signing former England international Kyle Walker wasn’t enough to keep them competitive in the Premier League. Parker’s team have quite simply looked out of their depth for much of the campaign.

Gerrard is one of the leading candidates to take on the role

One of the leading candidates to take the role if Parker does leave is his former England teammate, Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool legend left his last role as head coach of Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq in January 2025.

Gerrard had previously experienced major success during his time as Rangers boss, guiding the Gers to the SPL title in season 2020/21, which was the Glasgow outfit’s first in a decade.

He decided to leave the Scottish giants in November 2021 to test his skills in the English top flight. The Villans were inconsistent under Gerrard, and the Midlands club decided to dismiss him in October 2022, after the team won just two of their opening 12 league games.

Gerrard’s next stop was at Al-Ettifaq, where he spent a relatively uneventful stint from July 2023 until his exit in January 2025. He has been linked with a return to management at various clubs, including, reportedly, his old club, Rangers, in October of last year, and more recently, Championship club Bristol City.
