Talks opened – Chelsea want 17 cap international signing in January – report

Chelsea have been linked with a last minute January bid to strengthen their defence for the title run in with a strong player from the Bundesliga in Germany.

Sky Sports reports:

Chelsea have launched a move to sign Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac, according to Sky sources.

Chelsea have reportedly been sniffing around various defenders in the winter window and the weight of hype might suggest that Antonio Conte wants to make another addition before the window closes.

With Chelsea so reliant on wing backs it’s easy to see why they would be looking at a wide defender and Kolasinac is a very mobile and cultured defender.

Still only 23 and born in Karlsruhe, Germany, the defender elected to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina and has represented them with merit on 17 occasions since his debut in 2013.

He’s in his fifth season at Schalke having come up through the ranks at the German club. A regular starter when fit he has now played 103 times for the first XI and scored three times – two of those goals have come in just 16 appearances this season.

Kolasinac is strong in the tackle, athletic and likes to get forward. TFF believes that he is also adaptable enough to act as cover for Alonso on the left but also to play in the back three for Chelsea in Antonio Conte’s all-conquering 3-4-3 formation.

Chelsea fans: would he get into the first team?
