Liverpool inexplicably plummeted in terms of the form over the winter months and until then they looked like serious title contenders.
You could argue that the whole team flopped at this point and it wasn’t just the defence that was flailing.
But the essential problem as far as TFF is concerned is still that back five. Joel Matip looks like an excellent defender in the making. Nathaniel Clyne is solid and James Milner can do a job at left back. But they do require another centre back in order to lead the defence and add composure.
Virgil Van Dijk would be a super choice for Liverpool. But even more important for TFF is that Jurgen Klopp sorts out the goalkeeper situation in the long term.
Simone Mignolet and Loris Karius are accidents waiting to happen and they simply aren’t good enough for the top level as they have proven time and time again. The young Karius could prove in time to be a good keeper.
But who better to bring into the team then Joe Hart this summer?
He is a solid stopper and he will give another five or six years of top service to Liverpool. He may not be the very best keeper in the world but nor is he error prone and he’s a real leader at the back. A solid, gettable keeper with years of Premier League experience and still at the top of his game.
We believe that he more than any other player could transform the team and give them a much more solid look next season.
So if we could make any realistic signing for Liverpool this summer it would be Hart. He may not leave the fans salivating with excitement but he would be a crucial addition.
