The Nations Who Have Scored The Most Goals At World Cup 2026

Nine nations have reached double figures for goals at this World Cup, and four of the five most prolific attacks in the whole tournament have made it through to the last four. Only Belgium and Norway, both among the tournament’s top scorers, have missed out on a semi-final spot.

With the final of the 2026 tournament looming, anyone looking to bet on Spain vs Argentina would have been assessing who is likely to lift the trophy, and which nation will finish with the most goals. Let’s take a look at the nations with the most prolific goal tallies so far.

Argentina, 19

The reigning champions are currently leading the goal standings, with a total of 19 goals. Lionel Messi has eight of them and sits alongside Kylian Mbappe and the top scorer of the tournament. Messi also overtook Misoslav Klose as the all-time top scorer, with a total of 21 goals.

Lautaro Martinez has scored three goals so far, netting his first against Jordan in the group stage and his second was the winner in the 3-1 quarter-final win over Switzerland. His latest came against England in the semi final to seal a 2-1 victory, though many have debated whetehr he should have been on the pitch after not receiving a second yellow card against Switzerland for running into the crowd. The remaining goals are shared by Lisandro Martinez, Alexis Mac Allister, Giovani Lo Celso, Julian Alvarez, Cristian Romero, and Enzo Fernandez.

France, 16

Mbappe’s eight goals put him level with Messi at the top of the scoring charts, and he became France’s all-time record scorer during the group stage, in a 3-1 win over Senegal.

Ousmane Dembele has added five more, giving the pair 13 of France’s 16 between them. Bradley Barcola has contributed two goals, and Desire Doue has one.

Belgium, 14

Belgium’s 14 goals goals have been spread further than any of the other big scorers. Romelu Lukaku and Charles De Ketelaere are joint-top with three each. Lukaku has come off the bench for much of the tournament, playing under half the available minutes, and even forced an own goal against Egypt just 22 seconds after coming on.

Charles De Ketelaere also has three, two of them coming in the 4-1 Round of 16 win over co-hosts USA. Leandro Trossard and Youri Tielemans have two each, and the remaining three were scored by Hans Vanaken, Alexis Saelemaekers, and Kevin De Bruyne.

England, 14

Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have scored six each, accounting for 12 of England’s 14 goals. Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 12 minutes in the opening 4-2 win over Croatia, then added a second from a corner just before half-time. Bellingham made it 3-2 in the same game, before a substitute, Marcus Rashford, sealed it in the 85th minute, and England’s final goal of their campaign was netted by Anthony Gordon against Argentina to put England a goal in front.

Both Kane and Bellingham delivered bigger moments since. Kane’s best came against DR Congo, two goals in the final 15 minutes to turn a losing position into a 2-1 win. Bellingham has been just as decisive: two goals in 98 seconds against Mexico in the last 16, then a stoppage-time equaliser and an extra-time winner against Norway that sent England through to the semi-final.

Norway, 13

Erling Haaland has seven of Norway’s 13, including a double that knocked out five-time champions Brazil in the previous round, something the sports betting odds never would have seen coming before the tournament began. Neymar’s stoppage-time penalty in that game was no more than a consolation. Haaland also scored twice in a 3-2 win over Senegal. Norway’s run ended in the quarter-final, beaten 2-1 after extra time by England.

Spain, 13

Spain have reached the World Cup final with 13 goals, and reached the semi-final on fewer goals than any other side left in the competition. Mikel Oyarzabal leads their list with five after they beat Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-final, and converting a penalty against France in the semi-final to help secure a 2-0 win.

The remaining goals are shared by Pedro Porro and Mikel Merino, who have two each. Alex Baena, Fabian Ruiz, and Lamine Yamal each have one goal to complete their tally.

Spain’s most surprising result of the tournament was the 0-0 draw to Cape Verde in the group stage, a fixture many thought Spain would have dominated. They will now be hoping to provide more moments of brilliance in the final and stop Argentina from lifting the trophy for the second consecutive time.
