Tottenham reportedly prepared to offload 11 players

Reports today suggest that, after having had a proper look at his current squad over the summer, new Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to cull an entire 11 from his ranks as he begins to remould the team in his image.

The Telegraph reports:

Tottenham Hotspur open to offers for 11 players in desperate attempt to cut squad

Townsend, Lennon, Soldado, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Naughton, Chiriches, Sandro, Capoue, Chadli and Dembele all up for sale by north London club

We really like Pochettino. He’s got a strong will and real clarity about what he wants to do at Tottenham. While some of the names on the list marked ‘disposable’ will come as a surprise to fans and even the Tottenham players, we think that there is a lot of dead wood at Spurs.

Pochettino wants to drag a club, which doesn’t expect to win silverware each year, out of the comfort zone and into a position of real competitiveness.

Out of the group we really like Andros Townsend and are shocked at how much his stock has fallen over the last six months, as injury has bitten hard. We certainly think that he could form a vital cog in the machine at Tottenham, given a free run without injury for a season.

We also believe that Chadli still has more to give, despite an inconsistent year at Tottenham.

But too many of the players on the list have under-performed and most Spurs fans won’t be too disappointed if many of these guys do leave the club this summer.

The only problem with getting rid of so many players is that you have to replace at least some of them. With only three weeks left in the transfer window Pochettino is going to be a very busy man.
