‘Expecting Something’: Manchester United playmaker tipped to depart by world star

Fellow Dutchman Arjen Robben is tipping Memphis Depay for a transfer in January to end his Manchester United nightmare and reignite his career elsewhere.

The brilliant 32-year-old, who has 89 caps and 31 goals for Holland is quoted as saying:

“He is a very talented player,” he told Goal. “It’s a pity it didn’t work at Manchester until now. He’s playing very few matches. I’m expecting something to happen next time, maybe he will make a move in the winter break.”

Robben sounds as if he has inside information and no one would be surprised if a move did materialise. Everton may be in the market for the winger and it seems clear that Jose Mourinho is open to offers.

TFF was hoping that Mourinho might make a pet project of Depay at Manchester United. Because all the raw materials are there for him to be a top player.

He’s lightning fast but also seriously powerful and hard to knock off his feet. The 22-year-old just seemed to lose his composure and confidence early doors at Manchester United and has never recovered.

He hit 39 goals in 90 games for PSV Eindhoven – including 25 in his last season – before his £25m move to Manchester United in summer 2015.

But his form came crashing down after a bright start and Louis van Gaal appeared to lose faith in the player’s ability to track back very early on.

Sometimes the psychological side of the game is the biggest challenge and TFF feels that a move away from Manchester United – perhaps to Everton – could be just what the Netherlands international needs to fulfil that amazing potential of his.

United fans: a mistake to let such a talent leave after just 18 months at the club?
