Striking omission from Manchester United touring party to China – is this the end?

He was hyped as the next big thing to come through the ranks at Manchester United.

But the latest news suggests that James Wilson’s time at Manchester United is coming to an unhappy conclusion.

Because Sky Sports have confirmed this afternoon that:

Manchester United striker James Wilson not selected for China tour

Wilson played against Wigan on Saturday in what was a massive opportunity to impress new manager Jose Mourinho. He had few touches and little impact on the game and has subsequently been left out of the 25 man squad in a clear indication that, unless he’s injured, he will be moving on this summer.

Wilson has pace and an eye for goal but being ‘good’ isn’t enough for Manchester United. His loan spell to Brighton last term didn’t go particularly well with 27 games played and 5 goals scored.

And, in total, he has only played 20 games for Manchester United over the last three seasons with 4 goals bagged.

He will be in demand of course and TFF now expects him to leave the club permanently this summer, with Marcus Rashford and Zlatan providing more than enough goal threat up front.

Here is the full squad list for the tour of China, with the first game scheduled for Friday afternoon (BST) when Manchester United take on Borussia Dortmund.

Touring squad: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone, Bailly, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Jones, McNair, Rojo, Shaw, Smalling, Tuanzebe, Valencia, Carrick, Herrera, Januzaj, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Mkhitaryan, A Pereira, Young, Keane, Rashford, Rooney.
