Woodward holds face-to-face talks with agent of Manchester United’s top target

This one is a story that just won’t go away.

While Real Madrid seem to be dragging their heels Manchester United are seemingly quite clear that they want to make Paul Pogba their marquee summer signing.

Jose Mourinho revealed in his first Manchester United press conference on Tuesday that he had prioritised four signings this summer, with Eric Bailly, Zlatan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan the first three.

And highly respected British media outlet, The Guardian, reports that Pogba is the fourth:

Manchester United have accelerated their attempts to sign his fourth major target, thought to be Paul Pogba, with the club’s chief executive, Ed Woodward, holding face-to-face talks with the player’s representatives.

The 23-year-old seems set to move this summer with Manchester United prepared to show up to £80m to Juventus, according to widespread reports.

The Frenchman is a force of nature. He’s become one of the top midfielders in the world since his move to Juventus and his skill set is rare.

He marries the brilliant athleticism and big engine with moments of breathtaking skill and stupendous goals. He’s box-to-box and may turn out to be even better than the hitherto peerless Yaya Toure.

The report states that the move has been sped up since Jose Mourinho made it very clear in his press conference that Wayne Rooney will be expected to play in attack next season rather than in the midfield role that he has been playing for club and country over the last few months.
