It looks like it’s going to be the busiest summer for Manchester United in many years.. <\/p>\n
You could name a whole team of players who could leave the club after having underperformed for at least a season now. <\/p>\n
One man whose future is now certain is Ryan Giggs. Having met new manager Louis van Gaal Giggs has decided to retire as a player and join the Dutchman’s coaching staff as number 2.<\/p>\n
Many think that he is good enough to manage Manchester United right now. Others believe he needs more time and experience to learn the role.<\/p>\n
By staying on at Manchester United beyond the end of this season he will learn a huge amount from another managerial legend of the game.<\/p>\n
But we believe that Giggs was hasty in announcing his retirement as a player at Manchester United. That may sound ridiculous for a forty year old man.<\/p>\n
But, as we saw this season, he can still give you some absolutely diamond cameos for 15 or 20 games per season. Still fit as a fiddle his quality on the ball remains superior to most of his team mates.<\/p>\n
Even if only used as an emergency player Giggs could be invaluable to Manchester United on the pitch next season – the ultimate calm head in a tough situation.<\/p>\n
Giggs is integral to Manchester United and is surely a United manager in waiting. He’ll get three years under Louis and then be asked to take the reigns. But it’s such a shame that he has retired as a player as we were hoping he might do a Stanley Matthews and play on into his 50s.
