Transfers: Chelsea victims of their own success?

There is a maxim that however big you get there will always be someone bigger out there.

Chelsea are certainly one of the most prominent and wealthy clubs in the world right now. They are riding the crest of a wave under the inspired guidance of Antonio Conte.

But they are dwarfed by the size and glamour of Spanish giants Real Madrid. And having not made any galactico signings over the last few years they may be about to flex their muscles once again in the transfer market.

And the Blues could be victims of their own success this season as the spotlight has once more fallen on their best player.

The big transfer tussle of the summer could be for the services of Chelsea genius Eden Hazard.

British media outlet, The Daily Mail, today stokes the fires of speculation by suggesting that with Cristiano Ronaldo on the wane Hazard may be targeted to freshen up one the most frightening attacks in world football.

Cristiano Ronaldo is scoring, shooting, assisting and touching the ball less than ever before… at 32 is he in decline? It is no wonder Real Madrid want Chelsea’s Eden Hazard

After an inexplicable dip in form last season Hazard has been on fire again this term with 11 in 31 dazzling games for his club. In total he has scored 66 in 237 games over five years for Chelsea and assisted as many.

For Belgium he has already made 76 appearances and scored 17 goals. And in terms of style of play he is surely perfect for Real Madrid.

Chelsea certainly don’t need to sell and, as usual in modern football, the final decision may well rest with the player himself.

The Frenchman may feel that, at 26, now is the time to move on and work with France legend Zinedine Zidane. It may well be an uncomfortable and long summer for Chelsea fans in terms of the transfer window. Because until the player states otherwise, this story may not go away.
