Manchester United are eighth in the table after 15 league games, 8 points behind Chelsea, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
The Red Devils need to strengthen their squad in the upcoming winter transfer window and a certain center half is on their radar.
According to The Sun, United are looking to sign Turkish international and Galatasaray defender Ozan Kabak, who is valued at around £20m.
My view:
Under Mourinho, United have already conceded 25 goals in the league this season and have a GD of -1. Therefore, strengthening the back line should be their priority in January.
Since moving to Old Trafford, Jose has lured center backs like Bailly and Lindelof but the latter has not proved to be good enough and the former has been really poor in the current campaign.
Furthermore, the likes of Smalling, Rojo and Jones have been inconsistent and United clearly lack a leader in their defense. In January 2018, Liverpool broke their transfer record to lure Van Dijk , whose leadership has solved the defensive conundrum at Anfield. Similarly, United need a leader like the Dutchman in their defense.
Kabak, 18, made his debut for Galatasaray back in May this year and he has not played for the senior national team as yet. So he is very inexperienced and does not have what it takes to solve the dilemma at Old Trafford. I do not think that he will even get straight into the starting XI.
So, Mourinho should sign an experienced center half to immediately improve the back line. Someone like Alderweireld, who has proved his worth in the La Liga and in the PL, would be a top addition. The Belgian international’s contract with Spurs will expire next summer and United should move in to lure him this winter.
