Two world stars on Arsenal’s transfer radar – report

Arsenal will only sign a striker of elite quality this summer and have been linked with moves for Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann by one British tabloid.

The Sun says:

His main target is Bayern Munich forward Lewandowski, who has stalled on signing a new contract because of his huge wage demands.

If he fails to land Lewandowski, he will turn his attention to 25-year-old Atletico Madrid star Griezmann.

If there is any substance to these reports then they will be bittersweet for Arsenal fans.

Because while the fans obviously want more top signings, Griezmann only signed a new five year deal with Atletico Madrid in June.

So he would surely be out of bounds.

As for Lewandowski, there are absolutely no doubts about his credentials.

The 27-year-old Polish international has bagged 35 goals in 81 caps for a decent but not great Poland side.

And he has scored a remarkable 67 in 100 games for Bayern Munich over the last two seasons. With contract negotiations between the German club and player at a fragile point, Arsenal may have a chance of signing the bulldozer.

But only if they were prepared to break their wage structure. Because here is a striker who could pretty much play for any team in the world and would command about £250k per week at Real Madrid, Manchester United or PSG.

So, as usual, the question for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal is – How Much Do You Want It?

‘Not enough’ has too often been the answer in recent years. But TFF would be absolutely delighted if Arsenal pushed the boat out for Lewandowski and Germany centre back Shkrodan Mustafi this summer. In two signings they would immediately be at the forefront of the hunt for domestic and European honours.
