New Target: Chelsea linked to another gifted midfielder

Chelsea are rumoured to be keen on an Italian midfielder as their summer transfer plus continue apace.

Antonio Conte has already signed Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante this summer and reports in Italy say that he may not be finished there.

Sky Sports News passes this one on:

Chelsea will enquire about the availability of Lazio midfielder Marco Parolo, according to Sportitalia.

The report states that the new Chelsea boss was impressed by the performances of the player at EURO 2016 – where Conte coached Italy to the quarter-finals – and he is keen to find out if the player is available.

At 31 years of age this would be a deal to steady the ship now rather than in the long-term. But Parolo is certainly not without virtue.

He’s been in and out of the Italy team but has played 24 times since his debut in 2011.

Parolo moved to Lazio, his sixth Italian club, from Parma in 2014 for around 4.5m Euros and has been a consistent and productive performer with 18 goals in 80 games for Lazio.

Standing at 6ft 1in he’s a big man and would be more than capable of holding his own in The Premier League.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has signed relatively young players so far this summer but Parolo could be the veteran who communicates the boss’s wishes on the pitch over the next year or two.

Let’s see some of his career highlights.

Chelsea fans: where would Parolo fit into the team and would he get many starts?
