Chelsea had to deal with a somewhat crushing defeat last night and also I failed to get that Premier League record of 14 wins on the bounce.
But let’s look at this from a more positive angle. If any Chelsea fan had been told that they would win 13 games on the trot after losing to Arsenal in the autumn they would have bitten your hand off. Chelsea are still in the box seat to be champions come May and they look set to strengthen that squad in the coming weeks.
British media outlet The Daily Mail today suggests that Chelsea are weighing up a bid for one player and are in talks with another.
They say:
Chelsea weigh up bid for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko and remain in talks over Atalanta’s Franck Kessie
We at TFF have spoken regularly about the Atalanta midfielder. He looks like the sort of player who could be a Chelsea stalwart for years to come. He’s got pace, power and never stops running. Add to that some real football finesse and the 21-year-old looks as if he ticks all the boxes. He may cost somewhere in the region of €30 million but he will be more than worth it.
As for Bakayoko, he is a 6ft tall defensive midfielder with similar mobility and strength on the ball. Just 22 years of age he’s already played 13 times for the France U21 side and looks to have a solid future in the game.
He has played 67 times in total for Monaco over the last three years and scored four goals in that time – but hitting the back of the net is not his forte. What he is good at is breaking up attacks and shielding the defence.
