After a shocking result for Manchester United against Chelsea, TFF tries to find the silver lining in the storm clouds.
Jose can bring 4 top players in
While Jose Mourinho still seems to be fumbling around for his best XI, many to most Manchester United fans have been crying out for Michael Carrick to be restored to the side whenever fit. His presence, and man of the match performance, brought one of United’s best shows of the season in midweek and how Fellaini can be chosen ahead of the Englishman will forever confuse this writer.
As well as Carrick, Manchester United can call on Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial – another who should be an automatic pick – and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who must now be in line to kickstart his Old Trafford career.
Most rivals didn’t win
This could have been Manchester United’s opportunity to make up ground on their rivals. Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City drew while Everton lost at the weekend. But at least they didn’t fall much further behind the rest. The gap is now 6 points to the top.
The scoreline didn’t represent the balance of play
On the balance of play this was not a 4-0 game. But the very early goal meant that the gameplay went out of the window and United were chasing the game from the off with a line up set up for defending.
It’s only October
Jose has made some questionable selection decisions at Manchester United as he looks for his bed team. But he’s only just crept into double figures of games as Manchester United manager and he deserves time. United are still in four competitions and a win against Manchester City in midweek will be the perfect antidote.
