Manchester United linked with double Champions League winner

There has been a sense that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is really building for the future at the club right now.

Apart from the signing of his Zlatan, who is just as effective now as he was when he was 25, United have signed young players of real potential.

Paul Pogba should be at Manchester United for 10 years and Eric Bailly has slotted in beautifully at the tender age of 22.

But the latest man to be linked is a veteran who surely only has a year left in the game at the very top level.

British media outlet, The Sun, reports:

Jose Mourinho bids to fend off Chinese financial clout and sign Pepe from Real Madrid

The report states that Manchester United won’t even try to sign the player in January but wait until next summer to make a move.

Pepe has obviously been playing at the top level for a long time but he’s never been one of TFF’s favorite players. He’s a double Champions League winner with Real Madrid but there’s not enough guile in his game and he’s arguably not the fairest of competitors.

And, at his age, he is still going to cost huge money in wages if Manchester United sign him.

Furthermore the centre of defence has been brilliant over the last few months with players like Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly doing the business.

These guys have a much better age profile and haven’t cost the earth so we think that Pepe would be a poor signing by Manchester United and Jose Mourinho.

But let’s take a look at him in action nonetheless.

Manchester United fans – would this be a canny signing or do you think it would be a complete waste of money to bring such an old player to the club on such a big wage?
