Manchester United manager was desperate to sign young striker according to sporting director

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was desperate to sign Breel Embolo before he joined Schalke according to the sporting director of the German club.

Having scored 31 times for Basel, the 19-year-old moved to Schalke in the summer.

The Swiss international, who already has 15 caps for his country, has started well at Schalke having played 13 times and scored 4 goals before being cruelly ruled out for the rest of the season because of an ankle injury.

At his age that won’t be career threatening and TFF wouldn’t be surprised if Manchester United reignited their interest in the player in future. The Schalke sporting director said:

“It’s nothing new that he is a great player. There is a reason why Mourinho desperately wanted to sign him for Manchester United.”

“I don’t talk about other clubs. I’m glad I’m with Schalke. I decided on Schalke, that’s all that matters for me,” Embolo told German outlet Blick.

“It was very important to me to make the right move. I wondered what would be the best for me and the result was that Schalke was the perfect club.”

His style of play reminds us of Didier Drogba, who was of course one of the most important Chelsea players under Jose Mourinho. So it’s easy to see why the Portuguese may like the youngster.

He’s a wonderfully elegant player who has pace and great ball control. But he is also a very powerful player despite his tender years.

He looks absolutely tailor made for the Premier League and TFF very much expects him to be plying his trade in England at solemn stage in his career if he isn’t snapped up by a Spanish giant. That said, England and the Premier League would appear to be more suited to his talents.

Let’s take a look at the young man in action. Manchester United fans: can you see him playing for the Reds one day?
