Rumour: Chelsea targeting 20-year-old sensation?

There’s been a lot of talk about defensive reinforcements ever since Antonio Conte took over at Chelsea but so far he has only signed a couple in the shape of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso.

But latest rumours in Spain suggests that Chelsea are in the hunt for a superb young central defender who Barcelona are also interested in. Spanish media outlet, Sport reports (via The Daily Star):

CHELSEA are targeting a move for Ajax central defender Davinson Sanchez.

The 20-year-old Columbia international has played once for his country since his debut in 2016.

And he’s been absolutely sensational for Ajax in his first season at the club, since his move from Atlético Nacional, playing 43 times scoring six goals from his position in defence.

He’s been a catalyst for Ajax this season and one of the major reasons why they’ve made it so far in The Europa League.

His defending is precise and powerful and he also likes to get forward and start attacks. He has the fearlessness of youth but also the composure of a player much more mature in years than he is.

Sanchez also seems to have the perfect physique for the rough-and-tumble of the Premier League. Of course playing in Holland isn’t the perfect gauge of whether he can make the grade in England. But he does appear to have the natural tools to become a really top defender in a top league.

Chelsea fans – is he the man for the job next season or would you prefer a player with more experience to come in and play alongside David Luiz et al?
