Rumour: Manchester United hold talks with forward over summer move

Manchester United have reportedly spoken to Belgium star Dries Martens about a summer move to Old Trafford according to reports in the Italian press. British media outlet, The Daily Express passes this one on:

Man United hold secret two-hour talks in hotel with Serie A star over summer transfer

The 29-year-old Belgian star has played 55 times for his country since his debut in 2011 and scored 11 times.

At club level he has been something of a journeyman having played for Utrecht, PSV and Napoli in Italy. He’s played 171 times over four seasons for the Serie A side and scored a highly creditable 57 goals in that time.

He’s a solid wide man who can play on either side and is more steady than explosive. But he can beat a man and deliver an excellent cross.

But as good a player as he is TFF doesn’t believe that he fits the profile of a Manchester United signing under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese has bought a veteran number 9 in Zlatan. But he has always been a huge fan of highly mobile and indefatigable wide players. We believe that if and when he invests in wide players it will be for those at their absolute peak – such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan – or younger players who can effortlessly get up and down the line all day long.

Manchester United fans: would he get into the first XI at Old Trafford?
