Top Player: Everton have made offer for 71 cap international – report

Although we haven’t seen any big-money signings for Everton so far this summer there is intent in the way they are going about their business. They definitely seem to be getting linked with a higher calibre of player than in recent years at any rate.

One of the latest to be linked is Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel.

The Liverpool Echo passes on word from Italy that:

Axel Witsel has offers from Juventus and Everton according to reports in Italy – and the Italian giants are said to be slightly worried about Everton.

The 27-year-old, who has been capped 71 times by seriously strong Belgian national side, is also said to be wanted by The Old Lady who will possibly be looking to replace Paul Pogba before long.

Juventus may have Champions League football to offer the brilliant dynamo but the allure of The Premier League should not be understated.

Everton already have an impressive lineup in midfield but their stalwart, Gareth Barry, will surely wane before too much longer and Witsel would be a perfect replacement.

He is not what you would call a prolific, goalscoring midfielder but he does chip in with a decent number of goals. He’s got seven for his country and 21 in just over 150 games for Zenit including 6 in 41 games last season.

He is strong, technically excellent, reads the game beautifully and is equally good anchoring the midfield or going forward and helping out the forwards.

Here are some of his better moments in his recent career.

Everton supporters-can you see the club getting this one over the line or will Juventus get their man?
