There has been rumour, for the last few days, that Arsenal are close to completing a move for QPR striker Loic Remy. The trail has gone a bit quiet since The Metro, among others, reported that a deal was something of a formality. The Metro reported Saturday:
Arsenal are believed to have agreed terms with QPR striker Loic Remy over a summer move.
The French international, who spent last season on loan at Newcastle, was reportedly also a target for Liverpool and Tottenham, while himself this week admitting he would like to join Chelsea.
But according to Sky News Radio, Arsenal have beaten Remy’s other suitors to the punch, snapping him up ahead of the World Cup which starts in under two weeks.
It is believed the Gunners will have to pay around £10m for the 27-year-old’s services.
If it gets done we believe it’s a real coup for Arsenal. Some Arsenal fans that we have spoken to are a little underwhelmed by the prospect, believing that the club needs an A-lister up top.
But, while we agree that another big signing is needed, Remy would be a dream squad member for even the very best Prem teams. He’s quick, accurate and works hard. We think that he will be a fan favourite if he goes to Arsenal.
Many of the bookies also retain Arsenal as favourites for the signature of Karim Benzema if he decides to leave Real Madrid. Benzema is not a player who is going to sit on the bench for too long and The Premier League may be an attractive alternative for the lad if Real Madrid pursue other centre forward targets this summer. Despite a decent scoring record in Spain he seems to leave the fans somewhat undecided as to his overall importance.
While it’s questionable whether he fulfilled every bit of the amazing potential that he showed as a kid this is a top drawer striker who will win you games in the tightest of situations – an ingredient that Arsenal have arguably lacked in recent times. Let’s see the man in action. Arsenal fans would you be happy if you started next season with these two?
