Manchester United and David Moyes could be about to get the golden ticket – a way out of the seemingly hopeless situation that they have found themselves in.
Just six months after being crowned champions of England yet again, David Moyes’ Manchester United are 7th in the league, miles off the pace and 6 points from a Champions League place.
And, even with Manchester United’s budget, it was starting to look pretty unlikely that David Moyes would be able to bring in a top player in the January window. With just six months to go until the World Cup players necessarily don’t want to be unsettled by big transfers.
News today suggests that Chelsea are prepared to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United for £40 million. The Daily Mail says:
£40million for Mata! Chelsea willing to sell outcast but Manchester United must match mammoth fee if they are to land the maestro
Manchester United have been told to pay £40million for Juan Mata after the champions stepped up their interest in the Chelsea outcast.
Despite posturing from both clubs, Chelsea are willing to sell the Spanish playmaker if United match their valuation — and David Moyes is believed to be on the brink of making an offer.
All we can say about this is – £40m for Mata? £40m to save Moyes’ career and Manchester United’s season? Absolute peanuts.
We heard all about Moyes’ derisory offers for Everton players in the summer. What Manchester United can’t afford to do now is offend Chelsea with a stupidly low bid. Chelsea don’t need to sell but Manchester United are desperate to buy a player of this quality. So, don’t haggle over a few million Mr. Moyes. Pay the £40m and get a world class star to help with the push for the crucial Champions League place. Because, without Mata, that task will be far more difficult.
Manchester United need Mata badly and £40m represents excellent value for a 25 year old who could play for Barcelona – he’s that good.
So, Mr.Moyes, get your cash out and start building the next dynasty this January – the Manchester United fans deserve it.
Let’s remind ourselves of Mata’s class. Manchester United fans, do you think is lad is worth £40m?
