Liverpool: £40m January bid mooted by report

This is not the sort of speculation that Liverpool will want to be courting but we suspect that it won’t be the last time it happens over the coming months.

Because, such has been the form and brilliance of Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho over the last 12 months that surely every top team in the world is throwing covetous glances in his direction right now.

The latest media outlet to throw his future into potential doubt it The Express which writes:

Liverpool rocked as PSG prepare £40m bid for unsettled star Philippe Coutinho

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are preparing a £40million January bid for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

The tabloid states that PSG made a bid to Liverpool of £22m last summer but they are now ready to go big in an attempt to sign the 24-year-old.

In reality, a player of this profile would surely go for a lot more than £40m in today’s market, if Liverpool were ever to agree to a sale – a very unlikely outcome in itself.

With 8 goals in 26 games for Brazil he is now one of the first names on the team sheet at international level and he was in devastating form for Liverpool before his injury which has sidelined him for the last month.

Coutinho has scored 35 goals in 158 appearances for a club which surely has no intention of selling its prized asset among one of the best squads that the Anfield club has possessed in many years.

Reds fans: are you at all concerned by the latest speculation or is the player firmly committed to the club?
